2012 Emmy Awards: Fashion Recap

Julie Bowen in Monique Luhillier, Claire Danes in Lanvin, Julianne Moore in Dior Couture
Hannah Simone in Pucci, Kaley Cuoco in Angel Sanchez
Did anything catch your eye at last night's Emmy Awards? Five ladies in five stunning yellow dresses definitely marked the evening for us. From peplums, to sleeves, and many shades between them, all of these ladies effortlessly pulled off a color that is notoriously difficult to wear.

We also have a handful of favorites from the evening picked out. Old hollywood glam, courtesy of Jessica Pare and co. Chic strapless cuts that makes a statement (Tina Fey looking amazing!), and beautiful flowing boho styles that add that extra style flare to an otherwise structured evening (Kristen's length and Leslie's top knot). We love it all!

Giuliana Rancic in Ramona Keveza, Allison Williams in Oscar de la Renta, Jessica Pare in Jason Wu
Tina Fey in Vivienne Westwood, Lucy Liu in Versace, Juliana Margulies is Giambattista Valli
Kristen Wiig in Balenciaga, Leslie Mann in Naeem Khan, Sarah Hyland in Marchesa

Day to Night: 1950's Blue + Diamante Collar

This unsigned collar necklace from the 50s if absolutely amazing. New to our collection here at House of Lavande, we've noticed it to be an instant hit among all of you so what better way to showcase it then in a Day to Night feature. Because it's such an elaborate necklace, it's best to keep your outfits simple and tailored to allow it to shine.

Black trousers, a fitted white top like this silk peplum top and flats are perfect to wear with this necklace. Add a handbag in the same cobalt blue as in the necklace and you've got it set. Since the weather is starting to change, throw in a military style jacket like this one from Ted Baker.

For night time, choose a form fitting dress like this one from Victoria Beckham's collection, some great heeled boots and a matching clutch and bracelet. Add a jacket in a cool color like this hunter green to keep it from looking too business. Add your favorite lipstick and you will have all eyes on you.

Iconic Woman Of Style: Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis

This week's iconic woman of style is the definition of style and grace. Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis has been inspiring women with not only her style sense, but her elegance and courage for over fifty years. Chic ensembles that were understated but smartly put together, are still modern staples of today. She was a wife, a sister, a mother and a first lady from whom we can all take a few tips and inspiration from every now and then.

Simplicity is the key to creating the iconic Jackie O style. Jackie was known for wearing simple, basic pieces that fit well. Well thought out combinations make for a very smart and well put-together look.

Adding pearls and button earrings is a perfect go to combo for a chic yet conservative look. Again, simple pieces of jewelry that pull a look together without adding too much bling. Jackie's were a signature triple strand created by Kenneth Jay Lane.

Add in a large pair of black glasses, keep to those clean lines, and simple jewelry and you will have an elegant and sophisticated look just like the iconic Jackie O.

Black With a Touch of Sparkle

The color black has many different meanings for each person; it can be slimming, sophisticated, and trendy. But some find the color to be intimidating to wear on its own. Gold is a great accent color to black while staying in the 'neutral' color palette. Even a tiny gold belt can help break up a solid black dress or a simple gold trim on a pair of black wedges.  Check out our favorite items below that incorporate gold into black.
1. Gucci Jersey x Front Metal Detail Dress // 2. Miu Miu Embroidered Velvet and Leather Loafers

3. Yves Saint Laurent Chyc Leather Clutch // 4. House of Lavande Vintage Earrings

5. Charlotte Olympia Carmen Suede Wedge // 6. House of Lavande Vintage Necklace

7. Versace Black and Gold Silk Scarf // 8. House of Lavande Vintage Necklace

Fashion Week: Beauty Trends

This runway season the catwalks were filled with a similar trend: au naturale. Showcasing natural hair to natural makeup, almost each designer incorporated this look into their show.
DVF changed things up a bit with a dark brow. This natural makeup with a slightly darker brow is, in our opinion (again), the way to go for a natural look. It doesn't look like you tried too hard but it makes it look like you put some effort into getting ready in the morning.
Alexander Wang tried out the natural makeup but put in a twist: slick hair. This "just got out of the pool" look is perfect for summer, especially if you are going from the pool to anywhere else. Just make sure to add a pop of color to your cheeks to offset the rest of the look.
Derek Lam went for natural everything with a tiny bit of color around the eyes. Another great look for night as the pop of color turns this natural look into something a little more upscale.

Fashion Week Jewelry

Choosing an outfit during Fashion Week can be a daunting task. And so can choosing what jewelry will compliment or add to your ensemble. Whether you have a busy outfit or a simple outfit, jewelry can really make or break it. We've listed some of our favorite necklaces and earrings lately that will be the perfect for for anyone's Fashion Week outfit.

1. 1980's Unsigned Gold Collar
Collars are huge in the fashion scene this season and we love them! This gold spike collar is right on trend. Add some hardware to your outfit with this collar or something similar.
2. 1950's Diamante Earrings
If you want something ultra classy and sparkly, look no farther. These diamante earrings are not only perfectly vintage but they will add sparkle to any outfit. If you aren't into big earrings, these button studs are perfect for transitioning your Fashion Week outfit from runway to after-party.
3. Christian Dior Necklace
What to say about this  necklace... it's gorgeous, it's classy and it's different. Wear this with either a simple outfit or mix it with a patterned outfit to really mix it up. And you can be sure you won't see anyone else wearing it.
4. Robert Earrings
Bright colors are a huge trend this season and these little bad boys add the perfect touch of color without being over-the-top.
 5. Miriam Haskell Earrings
These Haskell earrings are perfect for Fashion Week. Tassels are such a big trend right now that they will add a perfect touch to an outfit. The diamante stones add a bit of elegance and are sure to have everyone looking at you.
6. 1950's Tassel Necklace
More tassels.. you really can't get away from them this season not to mention this shade of blue goes with really anything.

IFBCON: Bloggers in Style

Earlier this week House of Lavande spent a couple of days learning from, meeting and snapping pictures of the lovely ladies of the blogging world. A fantastic time was had by all at this year's International Fashion Bloggers Conference. Keynote interviews of Derek Blasberg and Iman provided a unique look into the world of two of the industries most talented minds. If you weren't able to attend this year, you can watch a live stream of all of the panels here. They are full of informative information. In our opinion, a must watch!

Of course being in New York City with the start of fashion week and hundreds of fashion bloggers in one place, meant there was amazing style no matter which way you looked. Here are just a few of our favorite looks from the conference.
