The New Prep

The prep look has been a long running trend since the 50's and showcased its "new" comeback during the FW 2012/2013 runway shows, especially with designers like Jil Sander, Ferragamo, The Row and Jason Wu. Keeping true to the original preppy look, these designers also added their twist to create "The New Prep" look. From crystal embellished monogrammed clutches to long chained lockets, the prep trend is sure to make a big impact this season.

-- If you don't want to jump head first into this trend, start off with something simple like an accessory. A simple locket necklace or monogrammed clutch will add just enough prep to make a statement.

-- If you want something a little more, go for a a striped blazer or monogrammed smoking slippers
(a favorite in the "world of prep".)

-- A backpack may seem over-the-top, but it's great to make a preppy impact. Try something more chic like the one below from The Row.

-- And remember, "the new prep" is all about taking something preppy and adding your own twist. So wear something a little different like these House of Lavande Vintage earrings. Avoid too many chunky accessories though, as it can start to look messy and overwhelming and prep is all about keeping it simple.

The New Prep

1. Juicy Couture Fresh Prep Nautic Cotton Blazer   2. The Row Leather Backpack
3. House of Lavande Vintage Locket Necklace   4. Judith Leiber Austrian crystal minaudière
5. Louis Vuitton Monogrammed Smoking Slippers   6. House of Lavande Vintage Earrings

Daphne Guinness at Christie's

Today begins the auction of heiress Daphne Guinness' fashion collection at Christie's. 102 lots will draw top dollar, to benefit the Isabella Blow foundation

The story how how the auction came to be is this:
After Isabella Blow's passing, an auction of  her wardrobe was held. To keep the collection in tact, Daphne Guinness purchased it in it's entirety. Blow, who is credited for having much to do with the launching of Alexander McQeen's career, was a close friend, and distant relative of Guinness', who was also a very close friend of McQueen's. Today, Daphne Guinness is hosting an auction of her own fashions to raise funds for the exhibition of Isabella Blows collection that she hopes to host at Central Saint Martins College. The exhibition will also raise funds for the Isabella Blow Foundation which supports aspiring art and fashion students, as well as contributes to further research into depression and mental health research.

Celebrities, socialites and fashionistas have been showing us all the different ways to wear this trend, from a messy bun to a perfect top knot. We've put together some photos of our favorite ways to wear this trend and definitely will be trying these on our hair!
