Today begins the auction of heiress Daphne Guinness' fashion collection at Christie's. 102 lots will draw top dollar, to benefit the Isabella Blow foundation.
The story how how the auction came to be is this:
After Isabella Blow's passing, an auction of her wardrobe was held. To keep the collection in tact, Daphne Guinness purchased it in it's entirety. Blow, who is credited for having much to do with the launching of Alexander McQeen's career, was a close friend, and distant relative of Guinness', who was also a very close friend of McQueen's. Today, Daphne Guinness is hosting an auction of her own fashions to raise funds for the exhibition of Isabella Blows collection that she hopes to host at Central Saint Martins College. The exhibition will also raise funds for the Isabella Blow Foundation which supports aspiring art and fashion students, as well as contributes to further research into depression and mental health research.
