Enriching our lives

These days, we are all looking for ways to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Doing so brings joy, happiness and a sense of purpose to our lives. Disney has come up with a program that offers us that little extra incentive that we sometimes need. The Give a Day, Get a Disney Day program has the goal of inspiring one million people to volunteer their time to help change the lives of others, and in return offer them a one day, one park ticket to any Dinsey Land Resort, or Walt Disney World Resort for free!
Check out the website, spread the word and let's all get motivated to make a difference in some one's life!

The Runaways

The Runaways will make it to the big screen in March, and we couldn't be more excited for the music, the fashion, and the amazing lives of five young teenage girls and their incredible story. Formed in 1975 by the drummer of the band Sandy West and the rhythm guitarist Joann Jett the girls added Lita, Jackie and Cherie and went on tour in 1976 headlining for bands like Tom Petty and the heartbreakers, The Ramones, Cheap Trick and Van Halen.
The movie, which is based on lead-singer Cherie Currie's book 'Neon Angels' will star Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart, and chronicle their rise to stardom and eventual breakup. The five girls, all who were around 16 years old when they recored their first album, had a wild ride living the rock and roll life and traveling the world. Their music was pivotal in the rock-n-roll scene, and changed the rules forever.
We of course can't talk about the girls or the band without mentioning the fashion, and the inspiration we take from the incredible era that was the 1970's. Back then, the girls emulated the style of people who's style they loved. Cherie channeled David Bowie, Joan - Suzi Quatro and keith Richards, Lita found inspiration in a cross betwen Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and Jeff Black, Sandy after Queen's drummer Roger Taylor, and Jackie after the larger than life Gene Simmons of Kiss.
The reviews are in, and we hear the movie is amazing, we can't wait to see what these amazing young actresses have to offer to this amazing story!

Beaches of the world, come together.

Design by Sue Lawty, on a South Devon Beach
Have you ever wondered what someone strolling on the beach in South Africa would do if inspired to create something out of stones they found lying on the beach? Or how about someone in Iceland, or Hong Kong? Chances are you haven't, well until now of course...and this curiosity brings me to the Global Beach Project. This amazing collection online at the Victoria and Albert museum is by far one of the most intriguing things you will explore, and hopefully want to take part in.
Design by Bernard Martin on a Lourdata, Kefalonia beach in Greece
The idea came from the mind of Sue Lawty and her love of the earth, the creation stones over millions of years and the human desire to make patterns, and create. The project is a simple one, find a beach, create something...anything that inspires you with stones. Take a picture, then upload it and describe it. All of the instructions are here. One of the most amazing parts of this whole thing is all the time you can spend clicking away on the virtual map, literally being encompassed by the creativity and beauty from all corners of the globe. Hopefully you will be inspired, be able to find a beach and create something to share with people all around the world!

Worlds Colliding

Two of the things people are most passionate about in life are food and exercise. Well ok, maybe just food, so for those of us who have to work at the exercise part, there is new incentive! David Romanelli has geniously fused the amazing world of yoga to the amazing world of food. Arriving at the studio, which is located on Madison Ave. in New York, you endure an intense hour long session of yoga, calming your mind, toning your body and refreshing your soul. Of course, David does all of this to the likes of Ziggy Marley, the Grateful Dead and other not so typical music selections for the yoga studio. Then...then comes the real thrill. Right there on your yoga mat, dinner is served. From wine to dessert, pasta and veggies, and everything in between, nothing is spared in what is explained as a heightened state of awareness when enjoying your dinner directly after yoga.
Faced with some obvious criticism, David explains his idea in a very concise way. “It’s a way of getting people in the door,” he said in an interview. “The world is a better place if people do yoga. And if they come because chocolate or wine is involved, I’m fine with it.” David has also coordinated yoga retreats with Katrina Markoff, the genius behind Vosges Haut-Chocolat. Yoga in the morning, spiritual tours and cooking classes are all part of the itinerary. If you ask me it sounds like a wonderful way to spend a week. My only question is, when is David Romanelli coming to south Florida?!?

Day to Night Luxe Looks

Last night at House of Lavande it was all about luxe looks, pick your purple manicures, smuldering smokey eyes and aplenty of jewels, gems and all things that sparkle. The night was adorned by many of our chicest friends and we couldn't have had a more fabulously fun time. Our Ultimate Styling Event was centered around the idea on how to go from casual luxe by day, to glammed-up fabulous by night, in just a quick snap with a few amazing adornment add-ons, whether it be jewels, makeup or a little spirit. We'll be posting post party coverage so you can be in on all the fun that was had, but in the mean time here are a few of our styled luxe looks that were on display.
This lady-like look is all about being chic yet trend-on. By day opt for a few simple pearl strands and layer with varying lengths. By night kick-it up a notch with an additional statement pendent or nix the lace blouse for a simple tank and pair up with an amazing statement necklace, think big and fabulous. Skirt and blouse by 3.1 Phillip Lim
We love a little glam for day. Ok, maybe not all these jewels all at once, but a little glitz during the day is a great way to mix up your look. For a more casual look go with bold silver cuffs, either by stacking or wearing one on each wrist. For night, glam up even more with either a necklace or amazing earrings in the same color way as your embellished top, yet in a different texture, material or finish. Jacket by Stella McCartney, Embellished tunic by Givenchy
A great pop of color is an easy way to go from day to night. Add a chic fitted blazer for day hours, a bold belt and 1 fabulous necklace. For night leave the jacket and belt at home and sexy it up with layers of chain necklaces or an amazing chandelier earring with burst of color. Dress and jacket by Stella McCartney
If you have a great dress that already has great detailing, select 1 main statement piece. Here we're loving a bib necklace with just the right hint of color to add that extra je ne sais quoi needed for any fashionista. Dress by Lanvin
Check back in soon for post party coverage.

Red Carpet Redux

Us girls at HOL love a red carpet look. The glamour, the fashion, the jewelry, what's not to love? This year at the Golden Globes everything from shades of purple and blushes, one-shoulder gowns, and even ponytails ruled the show. However we feel like many of our finest red carpet stunners could have amped it up a bit and had more fun with fabulous statement jewels! So we've taken a few of our fave looks and selected a few of our finest adornments to show you how to master a red carpet look all your own.
Maggie Gyllenhaal in RM by Roland Mouret
One of the biggest trends on the red carpet was the new trend-on shades of blush. To keep this new nude shade modern, pair up pretty pinks with bold gold. With the simplicity of this gown we love a knock-out statement earring accented with a gold, pearl and rhinestone cocktail ring. Ginnifer Goodwin in Vionnet An asymmetrical cocktail frock in a bold blue is always a fresh and young choice. A classy pairing of crystal drop chandelier earrings and a chunky cuff keeps the look updated and elegant. Chloe Sevigny in Valentino Purple reigned supreme and this Valentino gown in the palest shade of violet with all its ruffles asks for nothing more then a beautiful jeweled cluster earring and a bright toned ring. When you have a dress that speaks all its own, opt for simple yet chic add-ons that add a small dose of glitz and glam. Cluster earrings are making a major fashion comeback, and try a bold cocktail ring on your second finger for an added slash of surprise. Zoe Saldana in Louis Vuitton We think that it would be much fun to add a hint of cool color to this updated take on a romantic Edwardian look, that also happens to be one of our favorite best dressed of the night. Don't be affraid to add an additional choice of color to an already stunning monotone gown. Here we opted for a pale take on turquoise and showcased it boldly yet sophisticated through stacked bracelets. When playing up the wrists keep the earring simple and chic.

Golden Hour

There's not a more appropriate time to honor a gilded look then the most apropos of award shows, the Golden Globes. Though I doubt we'll be seeing any of these trés chic Euro looks being sashayed down the red carpet, here's our fashion take on a tribute to all things luxuriously golden.
