Fashion Week Must Haves

Fashion Week is a week filled with excitement but also can be very busy and hectic which makes it easy to miss those "essential" items while deciding what to take with you from show to show. We've put together a short but important list of the items you will definitely need to make it through the day.

1. A Big Handbag - Fashion Week is the one week you will need to get bring out your "luggage". If you already love carrying around a large handbag than you'll love this week, but if you aren't we suggest investing in one that has a handle as well as a shoulder strap.

2. A Camera - this is essential. Whether you have a large one or small one, bring it. We suggest bringing a small camera with a powerful lense like this Olympus Pen E-PI1.

3. Wet Ones - you never know if you or someone else will spill those delicious drinks all over your brand new dress.

4. Umbrella - another essential, weather can be unpredictable and you don't want to get caught in the rain without one rushing to the next show.

5. Lip Balm - Kiehl's makes an awesome lip balm in a great travel size that is easy to throw in your purse or pocket. Keep those lips lookin' good ladies!

6. Big Black Sunglasses - keeps the sun out of your eyes. Also helps you from having to make eye-contact with anyone you might not want to.

7. iPad - the new notepad. Take notes, keep your Twitter followers up-to-date.

8. iPhone + Mophie Juice Pack Plus Case - you won't be running out of battery anytime soon with this on your phone. (plus it comes in different colors)

9. Coffee - whether it be Starbucks or your local coffee shop, you might want to get one in the morning if it's going to be a long day. The last thing you want is to be caught yawning at a show or in a photo.

10. Ballerina Flats - after walking around in your sky-high heels, you'll be glad you brought these in your bag.

11. Planner/Diary - keep your week and events organized with sleek and chic one like from Smythson.

What We Love About September

Fall may not officially start until later this month, but with Labor Day upon us, we are all ready to break out our fall closets and enjoy those Pumpkin Spice Lattes and cooler weather again. Here's everything we love about September this year at House of Lavande.

Fashion Week We love everything about Fashion Week. The atmosphere it brings to each city it is held in, the clothes, the models, the street style. September couldn't be more of a favorite month because of this simple week.

Gwyneth Paltrow + Stand Up to Cancer Gwyneth will produce the third biennial SU2C telecast with other Hollywood celebs manning the phones. Not only is this telecast for a good reason (this multi-network fundraising extravaganza raked in more than $80 million for cancer research and treatment in 2010) but you also might get to speak to a celeb.. phone away on September 7th!

The return of TV Season's return in September on TV and that's a big deal. Many shows leave you hanging at the end of their season finale and we are looking forward to catching up with our favorite casts like Modern Family, Revenge and so many more!

Fashion's Night Out This year we will be at Henri Bendel's for FNO. (check back tomorrow for more details) But what we love most about Fashion's Night Out is the style. You can find so much inspiration from the the different street styles and designer styles that happen all in this one night. Don't miss out - check to find where you can get all of this on September 6th at http://fashionsnightout.com/

National Milkshake Day Who wouldn't love a national milkshake day? We just recently found out about this "holiday" on September 12th and can't wait to be able to drink more than one milkshake in a day without feeling guilty!

Transition from Summer to Fall

Transition

With the end of Summer and Labor Day sneaking up on us, this week we're teaming up with Taigan to bring you our favorite picks ranging from style to food to travel. This House of Lavande Vintage 1980's Yves Saint Laurent necklace is a great addition to any wardrobe and can easily be transitioned from Summer to Fall. Follow these simple tips to make the transition.

-- For the end of summer, a great structured white dress with some killer heels is perfect. The gold necklace will stand out against the white making everyone's attention turn to you.. in a good way.

-- Wear some funky sunglasses to add a unexpected twist to your outfit, like these John Lennon style glasses from Elizabeth & James.

-- For the fall, choose a neutral palette so the gold ties in easily. Browns and blacks are a good place to start if you aren't sure.

-- Add this necklace to a boat-neck styled sweater to add some dimension. A great pair of boots and some black skinny jeans will complete your outfit.

-- Since this necklace is structured, try picking a structured handbag to go along side it.

Jewelry Trend: Stacked Bangles

It's fair to say at this point that everyone is obsessed with stacking bracelets. Big, small, colorful and jeweled, the one thing that remains a constant is the more the merrier. A go to favorite of ours is the victorian gold filled bangle with the added glitz of the 1920's deco channel set bracelet. Add in a little flare with an animal cuff or vintage YSL and you've got  a combo that won't miss. It's definitely time to welcome vintage to this party.

Style Trend: Thoroughly Modern Military

There's a new take on military and it took the runways of Fall/Winter 2012 by storm, especially with designers and lines like Elizabeth and James and Jason Wu. Tailored jackets and dresses with intricate jewelry mixed with the classic colors of green, brown and black.

-- Military is a fairly easy trend to incorporate into your wardrobe. Stick with a lot of dark, neutral colors like army green, browns and black is always a good accent color.

-- The new military trend is all about tailored dresses and jackets. Try a belted coat with a feminine twist like the one below from Ted Baker London or an empire line dress that is full of navy, brown and tweed (or any color you desire!)

-- Shoes are always a great place to start with this trend, especially if you aren't sure you want to suit up. Try a bootie with embroidery up the side or a over-the-knee boot in a dark suede.

-- This is one trend where you can get away with head-to-toe military and not be overwhelming. Why not try all of these style tips together this fall, you'll be sure to look polished and pulled together.

Coat: Ted Baker London Full Skirt Belted Coat  Handbag: Proenza Schouler PS1 Military Tote

Over-The-Knee Boots: Fendi Suede Military Boots  Cuff: House of Lavande Vintage

Style Icons: Mary-Kate and Ashley

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Known to the Fashion Industry as the CFDA 2012 Designers of the Year for their line, The Row. Known to the rest of the world as America's little sweetheart from Full House. Over the years, they have grown into young businesswomen and are one of top style icons for women around the world. With their laid-back bohemian day time looks and their sophisticated night looks, you are always guaranteed inspiration from the duo. Here we've put together some of our favorite looks from them.

Front Row Style:
Always looking chic in the front row, we love MK + A's all black look here. With their blonde hair, this look is striking and makes them stand apart from the rest.

 Street Style:
With MK + A, you never really know what you will see them in on the streets. Here we love their mixture of boho and sophistication. The all black ensembles are a favorite but we love the touches of gold and the ultra-chic messy boho hair.

 Elegant and Classy:
These gowns are gorgeous and are a personal favorite. We love the addition of the blazer as it adds a "classic" Mary-Kate and Ashley touch.
